Many times over the last few years we’ve been asked “what is the key to marketing success?” or words to that effect.
In short, there’s no secret, it’s as simple as having a plan and being consistent. So in this video we share our ‘key to marketing success’ and how you can adopt a similar approach.
Today, we’re going to look at what I consider to be the number one factor in your marketing success, and that is being consistent.
Now, the idea for this video has come about simply because, over the last few weeks, I’ve been discussing with clients and with potential clients how we’re going to help them organize their marketing around their new website.
And here’s what what strikes me as really interesting:
so few businesses are properly consistent in how they do their marketing.
Yes, just about everybody will do social media almost every day. What about everything else though? What about all the other things that make up a marketing plan?
Now, what I want to just say is a few things about this. The key that we’ve been trying to get our clients to get to grips with is just to do things on a regular basis that’s in the diary, which means that, if you make that appointment with yourself, it’s more likely to get done.
Want to get the edge over your competition?:
The best thing about it is that I found from my own research and from asking other people in marketing is that fewer than one in ten businesses, small businesses and slightly larger businesses, will have a consistent approach to doing their marketing activities if we take social media out of the equation because it’s easy for you tweet. It’s easy to put something on Facebook, or LinkedIn, and Instagram, etc. But, overall, that will have a nominal effect and it should only form one small part of your overall marketing approach.
So what we’ve been trying to encourage our clients to do is to put together some kind of action plan on a monthly calendar so that they know what they’re doing and when.
The most important bit, yes, really:
And, more importantly, put the time in the diary to do the marketing because, if you’re just waiting until you’ve got time to do this stuff, oftentimes it simply won’t happen because you won’t get around to it, and “around to its” are often hard to come by.
So what we’ve been doing is kind of filling in something like this. It’s just a simple monthly calendar. Now, I’m not going to go into too much detail on this, but this is mine. Literally, on Mondays, we create one of these videos. On Wednesdays, we might get a blog post, or we send out an email to our clients, or to our general list. We’ve been creating a WordPress Training website recently because, to us, that’s going to be a marketing resource. We go to networking events and those are in there as well. Blogging, etc., those are in there. So several places around there, there are blog posts.
Now, the key with this is that you don’t have to invent any wheels. You just have to keep it simple. I downloaded this from a website, printed it out, and just filled in the boxes. This means that, if it’s in the diary, when I look at my marketing time and I’ve got it on a bit of paper in front of me, I don’t have to think about what I’m going to be doing next in my marketing outside of the social media. That’s just a simple way of being more consistent in your marketing, but also a more consistent way of being organized in your marketing. A lot of marketing success is about being organized.
Keep it simple and GET IT DONE!:
So I would encourage you, now that you know the key to marketing success to go and do this. It really isn’t complicated. The simpler your system, the easier it is to do. So don’t over-complicate it. But the more important thing is, go out there and be consistent. I promise you 90% of your competition aren’t and, as a result, their marketing results will be just as consistent as their marketing. Go figure.
