An easy way to find content for your online marketing is to use the news in your social media. It’s much simpler than you think and, when you’ve woken up to it, you’ll never be short of things to publish online.

The idea of using the news is called ‘newsjacking‘. Effectively, highjacking the news.

Now don’t worry about getting into trouble over this, almost all of the news media copy each other to a certain extent. And they’re rarely shy about rewriting someone else’s news story to fill their columns.

The absolute key with this is to make sure that whatever you publish is relevant to your target market. Don’t go on a personal rant that has nothing to do with your business or those customers you’re trying to attract/engage.

So, here are the key ideas:

  • Write comments or opinions on the news
This is a great way to invite your followers to contribute their own thoughts (especially if invited).
  • Write something controversial or counter to common opinion
People love controversy. But the aim here is to stir up debate and not to get up people’s nose. If your view goes against the grain then it could be a good way to get discussion going.
  • Write a useful addition
Your audience will warm to you if you can give them useful ideas or information based on latest news or current affairs.
Ask yourself this question : “how can I make this news somehow useful to my audience?”

And remember: the key with all social media and content marketing is to be useful, helpful, informative and engaging with your target market.

So, if you use the news in your social media then it’d be great to hear from you. Write us a comment below.
